The 22,000 square meter facility, located at Industrial City 1 in Abu Dhabi, was constructed on a turnkey basis and was completed within 15 months.
The mandate of the contract included all civil, MEP, structural steel and sheet cladding works in addition to the installation of process equipment and the erection of a 27-meter high gypsum rock silo platform. The project required nearly 1650 tons of hot rolled structural steel.
The factory constitutes a first phase of the project and will produce 30 million square meters of plasterboard annually. Engineering studies for the second phase of the project, which will be a ready-mix joint filler factory, is currently under way.
Saint-Gobain Gyproc Emirates Industries LLC was established in 2007 as a joint venture between Saint Gobain, the world’s top plasterboard producer, with Abu Dhabi-based Sultan International Holding.
